I’m on FaceBook a lot, since I play online games. I know, it’s a stupid waste of time, but I like it. When you play a lot, BetterFaceBook is an add-on you can’t miss. But for some reason, I could not install the latest version in Chrome. I had 4.5 installed, but 5 would not install because of an “invalid crx header” error. Even when downloading the file and opening it in Chrome, it would give the same error.

So I unpacked the CRX (it’s basically just a ZIP-file) and installed it via “Load unpacked extension”. That worked. Not sure why Chrome did not like the crx, but I thought this might be of some help to you.

Finally did some work for switchbl8.nl. I modified the hosting options at DirectNIC, so it knows I host the domain. Changed the domainname-server to point to me. Modified the nameserver here to serve switchbl8.nl too. Downloaded the new WordPress (3.0.4) and extracted it.

More later.

I just installed the x64 version of Adobe Flash “Square”. And in Minefield it works. Not perfect (I sometimes see some graphics artifacts), but it works. And that’s nice. After long years of complaining about the x64-support of Adobe (read: the lack thereof) they have finally seen the light. Thumbs up.

Now let’s find all my Firefox-plugins for Minefield.

Update: all-in-one gestures works after you edit the RDF to make the maximum allowed version 4.*.* 🙂

For some reason vmplayer did not start anymore. It complained about the kernel modules. WTF? I did not change anything on the system, it has not been powered off, I did not install any updates, so…WTF!? I googled around and found in some forum that moving the binary directory from vmware’s lib-dir would do the trick. It did! Here’s what I did:

mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary_old
depmod -a
vmplayer

And…voila! It works. Not sure why this happened tough.

Happy Newyear to you all. I’m back to work after a week of. A very lazy week, so the alarm this morning was cruel!

So you want to develop in .NET, let’s say with Visual Studio 2008. Let’s say you want to create a program that interacts with your or any other Oracle database. Sounds pretty simple. New project, add references to the Oracle.DataAccess.dll and you’re good to go.

WRONG!

Visual Studio is a stupid 32bits program. So it doesn’t recognize the 64-bits libraries you just installed in the GAC. And to make things worse, neither does it recognize the 32-bits libraries when you install a 32-bits client (with ODP.NET) or just 32-bits ODP.NET.

THAT SUCKS.

Yes, I googled around. Yes, I tried numerous socalled solutions. Yes, the build runs succesfully. No, the exception about the Oracle dll won’t go away.

Thank you, oh great Oracle god, with ye allmighty knowledge (which roughly translates into: YOU SUCK!)

BTW Did you ever install ODP.NET? Or any other Oracle software or patch? No wonder clients pay me tons of money to have their Oracle shit sorted out. What’s wrong with a Next-Next-Finish installation on Windows? And wait a minute, what’s wrong with a Next-Next-Finish on every other OS? OUI you say? I know I’m old, and I already work over 2 decades with Oracle, but at least I had the decency to LEARN something in 20+ years.

The server was down this afternoon. After reboot, my devices were mixed up, so I guess a disk (old one) died and that reshuffled the whole numbering. Up and running since an hour or so, not really sure whether I miss something or not. We’ll see.

As long as I can remember, I used the alias SwitchBL8. It started when gaming got network-capabilities and the first “clans” started to appear. I was member of a clan of friends/colleagues, the [CBB]: Clan Brutal Butchers. At that time, we were brutal butchers. Look at what 15 years changes… 😉

Today I registered SwitchBL8.nl (or just switchbl8.nl) as a domain. This weblog will move eventually, but first I have to get everything in working order. I’ll keep you all updated.

Unexpected news from Oracle: SQL Developer Data Modeler is now a free product. The first editions where free with the sidenote that it was going to be a paid product. The previous release was present in Oracle Global Pricing list and was not cheap. Only the viewer was free. Now Oracle’s website has a note saying that the Datamodeler is a free product: Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler: Pricing FAQ. Unexpected, but welcome news.

When I joined Facebook some time ago, I had nothing with the games being played on it. The strange wall and all it’s posts from others just felt alien compared to Hyves, where your page is yours own, and others can only comment on stuff or respect (like) them.

A couple of months ago, I was lured into FishWrangler (yep, pun intended), a simple (no Flash needed) fishing game, but with a very large and very active community. When getting the hang of it, I also accepted long standing requests for ZooWorld and FarmVille.

And here I am now, playing FishWrangler with 2 accounts, FarmVille with 2, ZooWorld with 2 and MafiaWars (very nice) on 1. Helping others when they are struggling with how the wall or a game works, and enjoying myself all the time. Well, okay, not all the time: accepting the zillionth Train Whistle for your collection when you already have a surplus of 30 is not always very entertaining, but overall, the games clear the mind and make a very good pastime.

Make sure you have (or make) a lot of FaceBook friends, they are key to the succes of most games. Have fun!
