Today my Google’s PageRank is 4/10. My previous personal high was 3/10. Not sure what caused the positive change, but I’m not complaining! Thanks Google!
Judging by the directory date, milestone 9 became available yesterday afternoon. You can get it here. The full version now includes UML modelling, SOA support (BPEL designer a.o.) and Ruby (including JRuby and Rails) support. Now if only Ubuntu’s Apache would have better support for Ruby: the mod_ruby I can install (with aptitude, not by manually building the sources) keeps crashing.
I run phpBB just for fun. Earlier I already switched to Administrator-approval of registration, but users can still register and that process sends and email with a password to the specified e-mail address at registration. Since ALL registrations now are done by spammers, it generates lots of undeliverable mail-messages. That in turn raises some flags with other service-providers, since they start to see me as a potential spammer. I’m not.
So the forums are closed for now. Until I find a solution.
If you live in the area of Rotterdam (NL) and you are looking for a new (almost new) kitchen, please have a look at ours. It was installed in this house by the previous owners that never lived in this house, so the kitchen is as good as new. The oven has not been used, the stove (correct word?) and the dishwasher are as good as new. View my ad on Marktplaats.nl or contact me directly.
When Dutch is not your native tongue, but you are interested anyway, please comment here and I’ll give you the details in English!
After some hours of downloading (the minor part), installing and configuring, the server now runs Ubuntu 7.04. For some reason, still Edubuntu, but that’s okay by me. The updates must have repaired something, since my gallery seems to be in working order now, since I can view (and recreate) the thumbnails again.
Last week I upgraded my desktop from Edgy Eft to Feisty Fawn. No big deal. Just click the “Distribution Upgrade” in the upgrade manager, and wait until it’s done downloading, configuring, restarting. At the moment the server is “fetching and installing the upgrades”.
For some reason, my gallery has errors. When you go to the main page, you’ll see broken thumbnails. Rebuilding the thumbnails results in debug output, that show messages about existings files and so on. I know they exist, but I want to recreate them.
I Googled around, and found similar problems, most of them related to incorrect directory security settings, or to memory problems. But the machine has not changed and the pictures now with broken thumbnails had thumbnails before. The directory security has not changed either. So I guess I will need to dig in… 🙁
We’ve moved, and I’ve changed ISP as well. I can write this post by using “rare-it.com” instead of an IP-address, so I guess the IP-change is propagating nicely.
The server is now connected to a 20Mbit/1Mbit ADSL2 line. Still no big upload, but the download-speed has doubled whereas the subscription fee is lower!
I wanted to create a normal audio-cd from some MP3 files, and started Brasero for that. It gave me an error that it did not recognize the MP3 format. Googling around I found that more people had that problem and used Serpentine. But Serpentine gave me the same error, but it also gives the hint that some GStreams plugins might not be installed (properly). So with Synaptic I installed all gstream-plugins and now both CD-burners work fine.
Strange that the default edgy-installation does not recognize the dependency.
Today it’s exactly one year ago that I switched from b2Evolution to WordPress (to never look back). If you’re still using/following old links: tough luck. I switched the rewrites off.
